Christmas gifts

November 15th, 2006 at 05:01 pm

I have finally sat down and thought more about Christmas, and what Julie will be getting from me. I'm so happy to say that she'll be getting no toys that need batteries from me this year!

Now, if my parents would only listen. They plan on getting her a Dora the Explorer ride on jeep. I can see this ending badly.

Tonight after work I'm stopping by the consignment shop and picking up some new clothes for her. She really needs a couple more pairs of pants, especially since they are going to go to North Carolina for the week this Saturday.

I have to think of something to do with myself since I'll be home alone for 9 days.

Make a list of all things that you'd feel guilty about taking time for when you have your DD around or things that you can't do when you're watching your little one. And do at least one every day!

All the toys with batteries she got last year ... are sitting untouched in our bedroom.

The one toy she plays with all the time, her ride on pony. She think she's a cowgirl.

Those ride on jeeps are really not safe for kids under four or five, I don't care what the box says. I've seen the kids in my neighborhood fall out frequently and get hurt. Maybe you could encourage your parents to buy her a tricycle or a big wheel, something kid-powered. I know it is really hard, especially when you are a young parent and a first child parent, but if you do not want her to have the ride on jeep, insist on it. They may not realize how badly you feel about this idea. Put your foot down. Julie is your daughter, not theirs and you decide what you will let her use, not them and if you feel it isn't safe then your parents must abide by that. If they won't, then return it to the store and use the money for something else. They may not like it but if they don't respect your wishes then that is what they get.
