Of girls and dolls

January 6th, 2008 at 10:39 pm

So, I've been thinking about getting Juliette a really "nice" doll. Possibly for her half birthday ... something that will get a lot of love and attention put towards it.

I want something soft, but that's able to withstand a three year old's love. I want something that she can carry around, change it's clothes and dote upon it.

I don't want anything that can pee, poop, burp or do anything gross that I will probably have to clean up.

I was looking at the Bitty Baby by American Girl. They run about $50, and I've heard some amazing things about them.

But, then I noticed it was really quite in here ... where's Juliette. She's sitting behind me, playing with a doll I bought her for around $15, taking her clothes off and putting them back on. Giving this baby all the love she could ever need. It doesn't eat, or have any sort of bodily functions. For some reason, I am looking for the "perfect" doll, and yep, we already have it.

I think this counts as $50 savings!

cehck out Bitty Babies on craigslist or e-bay. My oldest two are 10 and 9 and got Bitty Babies when they were 3 and 4 (and a new brother arrived). They STILL play with them and love them better than the American Girl dolls. If you get one used and it might seem pricey, realize that there could by many years of love ahead. And I paid full price for the Bittys.

My DD has her first baby that my mom gave her when she was about 2 years old, and still loves her with everything in her, sleeps with her, etc. It is a Madam Alexander baby with a soft body. It's great seeing them give this little doll all their love, isn't it? Smile

Rebecca was Ale's first doll...it took me a while to find her, because I wanted a doll with brown hair...while Rebecca is no longer her favorite at the time, on occasion I'll still find her wearing new clothes (Ale's baby clothes)...she's not the prettiest sight anymore (Ale drew on her with a ballpoint-pen, her hair is a mess and, she's had several "surgeries" and "skin grafts"...but, once the excitement of new toys subsides, Ale always goes back to her!)
